Imperialism
Imperialism is the policy of extending the rule or authority of an empire or nation over foreign countries, or of acquiring and holding colonies and dependencies. The Age of Imperialism was a time period starting near 1870 when modern, some-what developed nations were taking over less developed areas, colonizing them, or influencing them so they could to expand their own power. Nationalism is having devotion or loyalty to one's own nation basically patriotism. Nationalism is what helped fuel imperialism. People thought their nation was so incredible that they should expand it so they imperialized and colonized other countries. Another reason people colonized other countries was to take the colonies natural reasources and use the natives as workers to harvest the natural reasources, sometimes the natives were treated essentially as slaves. Sometimes the natives were also drafted during war times to work in the army of the country colonizing them.
